IHS at UWA
IHS has developed rapidly at UWA over the past two years. In our first year we focused on establishing the discipline of IHS at UWA. Our first task was to define IHS in theoretical and practical terms (see scope and direction of IHS) and to present it as a coherent and rigorous discipline in its own right. This has been accomplished and our projected activities have been mapped for the next triennium (available soon on this website). Our second task was to establish a financial, resource and personnel base to ensure strong development and growth of IHS. These have now been secured. We have a Policy and Management Committee and an Advisory Group to ensure involvement across all interested disciplines as well as public, commercial and government sectors. We have a bas funding to ensure viability and growth of the discipline but actively seek further funding to develop specific activities, particularly for research projects and extension activities. In our second year we have focused on developing and executing our Research, Education and Extension Plans. Research - we now have a number of collaborative research projects concerned with human wellbeing that have used and integrated approach to their development and conduct. Education - we have developed plans for undergraduate units, postgraduate coursework degrees and postgraduate research degrees and now seek to incorporate these into the existing curricula. Extension - we are planning to introduce a weekly seminar series with guest speakers and to hold an international conference at UWA at the end of 2008. |
