The surroundings in which we live condition our state of wellness, ranging from weight and bodily function to feelings of vitality and happiness.

One environment that has the potential to influence our health, including weight and food consumption behaviours, is that of the family meal.

There have been a number of studies examining the significance of family meals for the wellbeing of children and teenagers, although little is known about the relevance of this to adult health.

This research will provide further information about environmental factors shaping healthy adult eating patterns, and in so doing, it should also help establish more effective preventative measures for overweight and obesity.

Volunteers needed

Cleeve is looking for volunteers, aged from 18 to 50, to complete a questionnaire asking about general background, lifestyle, childhood, the current family meal environment and health characteristics.

The questionnaire should take 20-30 minutes and may be completed electronically or on paper.

All participants will remain anonymous so that your privacy is protected and no information can ever be traced back to you.

To participate in this study, simply complete a questionnaire using one of two methods outlined below.

Electronic questionnaire

To download and complete the questionnaire:

  1. Obtain a password to protect your anonymity. To do this, send the family meal study a blank email and you will be emailed your personal password within minutes.
  2. Download the questionnaire [Excel, 1.09 MB] and choose the option to save it onto your computer.
  3. Open the saved questionnaire and follow the instructions to fill it in.
  4. Return your completed questionnaire to our research assistant.

If you experience any problems with obtaining the password or opening your questionnaire, please contact Cleeve Calder.

Printed questionnaire

To receive a printed questionnaire, send an email request to Cleeve Calder with the subject title 'request for family meal questionnaire' and make sure to include your postal address.

A questionnaire and a reply-paid envelope will then be sent to you.

When you have completed the questionnaire, seal it in the envelope provided and send it back to us.
